LARGE-SCALE PROJECT

Higashigotanda 2-Chome Block 3 Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project

Higashigotanda 2-Chome Block 3 is located between Osaki Station and Gotanda Station, and surrounding parks and other open spaces and roads have been developed in stages. The south side of the area faces the Meguro River and buildings located in the vicinity include Shinagawa Hino Gakuen School & Shinagawa Ward General Gymnasium and Park Tower Gran Sky and Oval Court, which were built as part of urban redevelopment projects in this area.
There are around 30 buildings in the area, about 60 percent of which are at least 35 years old. Furthermore, with no pavements or only narrow pavements on some of the roads, the area faces safety and disaster prevention issues. To resolve these issues and promote urban development utilizing the environment of the Meguro River, the project aims to promote rational and sound advanced use of the land and develop waterfront spaces along the river by developing buildings with excellent earthquake resilience, roads and pedestrian spaces, and parks and plazas.

Characteristics of project

  • Development of attractive and highly safe complex urban district
An integrated complex city area will be created, developing business functions mainly in the zone near Osaki Station, residential functions in the zone near Gotanda Station, and maintaining harmony with surrounding areas in terms of functionality and landscaping. In addition, disaster preparedness of the area will be enhanced through flood control measures in facility buildings and provision of temporary shelter facilities for people unable to return home.
  • Development of pedestrian network
In addition to widening roads, we will build a safe and secure pedestrian network by developing open spaces in the form of sidewalks and walk-through passages in the center of the area.
  • Development of waterfront spaces along the Meguro River, symbol of the area
Viewing the Meguro River, including the cherry trees along its banks, as the symbol of the area, open spaces and green paths utilizing the waterfront will be developed to create a rich urban environment.
